A film tells a story, introduces the characters, and slowly the viewer begins to identify with them. Then there's a cut, and in an instant we find ourselves in a new place with completely unfamiliar characters. How are these different figures connected? The narration of various stories that mostly intersect at one or more points in the film is the main feature of so-called episodic films. While this phenomenon has been noted by film studies, there are still few systematic investigations on the topic.
