Product details
The Electorate of Hanover, also known as Kurhannover, existed from 1692 to 1806. Its establishment is attributed to the acquisition of the ninth electoral dignity in the Empire as the Electorate of Brunswick-Lüneburg on December 19, 1692. From 1806 to 1810, it was a part of the state, and then, from 1811 to 1813, it was temporarily dissolved, before being reinstated as an electorate on November 4, 1813, and elevated to a kingdom at the Congress of Vienna in 1814. Günter Gebhardt, a regional historian and archival researcher from Hanover, who has previously published numerous essays on Lower Saxony's regional history, presents in this book a comprehensive and vivid depiction of the military and economic conditions from the 17th to the 19th centuries at the heart of the Hanoverian state. He enhances his work with insightful images. The author documents and describes in great detail the military affairs as well as the development of transportation and economy in the center of the Electorate and Kingdom of Hanover. Günter Gebhardt impressively brings long-gone times back to life. The data and facts he has compiled are astonishing and create new knowledge—about the emergence of the Herrenhausen waterworks, the royal hunt in the Deister or the Hanover Zoo, and about the execution sites and prisons of Hanover. This book is aimed at anyone interested in Lower Saxony's history. In this work by Günter Gebhardt, it is simply enjoyable to engage with a piece of our homeland's past, the state capital Hanover, and the region. There is no tutoring here, but rather the opportunity to refresh personal local historical interests and expand original knowledge.
