The smartphone is ubiquitous and is conquering new areas of life with a growing number of apps. This development is particularly interesting in the field of health and fitness. Several thousand apps now appeal to our health consciousness, point out interactions between medications, and sometimes promise astonishing therapeutic successes. But how exactly is the market structured? What is the consumer attitude towards health apps, and what opportunities do health apps offer in the future? Christopher Funk first analyzes the market for German-speaking health and fitness apps using the example of the Apple App Store, and in a second step, he assesses consumer attitudes through a survey with more than 1,000 participants. The focus of the analysis is on the questions of where the greatest benefits of health apps are to be expected.
