In the everyday world of German cities and increasingly in rural areas, they have become indispensable: trans-migrants. In Germany, they can be found as cleaners, elderly caregivers, or even as prostitutes. But what exactly is a trans-migrant? In any case, trans-migrants live in or between two worlds, with family and a life in their home country, while also having a job abroad that they commute to regularly. Does the phenomenon of trans-migration express a new form of Europeanization? What cultural conflicts exist? What perspective does, for example, a Polish prostitute who works here in Germany but has a husband in Poland, who knows nothing about her line of work, have on herself? How are trans-migrants judged by compatriots who have actually immigrated to Germany and stayed here?.
