Product details

The term "Young Germany" is inextricably linked to the Bundestag resolution of December 10, 1835, which banned the works of five writers: Heinrich Heine, Theodor Mundt, Karl Gutzkow, Ludolf Wienbarg, and Heinrich Laube. Petra Hartmann traces the paths of the banned and their allies, highlighting intersections in the works of the now older Young Germans. She particularly describes the authors' experiences on the island of Helgoland, their role in the Revolution of 1848, as well as the attempts of the former prose writers to establish themselves as playwrights.
