Product details

Martin Luther King is primarily known to posterity as a civil rights activist, an advocate of civil disobedience, and pacifism. However, the radicalism and utopia that lay beyond "I Have a Dream" in King's thinking become evident in the final speeches compiled here: he sharply analyzes the causes and consequences of the unrest in the social hotspots of major U.S. cities, which—unfortunately—have hardly lost their relevance since 1967. While his portrayal of the youth movements of the 1960s is historical, his plea for social action and engagement is timeless. King stands for social change through nonviolent resistance, but not for passivity: staying alert during a great revolution is the motto! The titular final speech, delivered on the eve of his assassination, powerfully illustrates the strength of his vision, his utopia.
