Product details

What image of war emerges in the minds of children who have experienced it? How does the madness of war reflect in blurred childhood memories, and how do these, in turn, shape the places where we live? What role does the feeling of fear play in literary representation? Raffaella Mare examines the theme of fear in the war narratives of Sasa Stanisic, Maja Haderlap, and Melinda Nadj Abonji. Based on Mikhail Bakhtin's theory of the chronotope, she analyzes the spatial and temporal dimensions of these traumatic narratives. The author's aim is to highlight the motif of fear, particularly in relation to the former Yugoslavia in the post-Balkan war period. She demonstrates how fear dominates the perception of the past, war-torn homeland, just as it influences the present location.
