One of the most visually striking Beuys actions is "Iphigenie auf Tauris," performed at the Theater am Turm in Frankfurt during Experimenta 3 in 1969: Joseph Beuys in a fur coat with a bright white horse on a dark stage. The myth and drama of Iphigenia served Beuys to highlight the freedom of the individual and the creativity of the person. The exhibition book Ich (Ich selbst die Iphigenie) documents this moving art event from over forty years ago with numerous objects and drawings, photographs by Abisag Tüllmann and Ute Klophaus, as well as statements from Eva Beuys, Botho Strauss, Peter Handke, and many others. Peter Handke, an eyewitness to the action, writes: "The longer the event recedes... the stronger the horse and the man walking around on stage, and the voices from the speakers become an image that one calls a wish image.".
