The then 22-year-old solo climber Jost Kobusch courageously captured this dramatic scene with his cellphone camera. His video has been viewed over 23 million times on YouTube and was even featured on the news. Growing up in northern Germany, far from any mountains, Jost has been passionate about climbing since childhood. With his free solo ascent of the 6,812-meter-high Ama Dablam in Nepal, he set a world record at just 21 years old. In the spring of 2016, he finally conquered the 8,091-meter-high Annapurna peak in the Himalayas.
