We knew nothing about the rest of the world or what was happening outside of Lithuania, or if there was anything else besides Lithuania at all. We had no concept of years, months, days, or any sense of time. We were no longer human, just wolf children who spun in circles or wandered around. Sometimes I would say to my mother, "Mom, what is going to become of us? I can't read, can't write, can't do math, and I can't speak German properly anymore." - "I don't know either how this will end. If only we had all perished, then we wouldn't have to experience this anymore." We often wandered around in tears and felt defeated, but we always picked ourselves up again.
