Christian Lehnert is a poet who takes his time, one for whom time apparently runs in a completely different rhythm. This may have something to do with the fact that the places of his poems seem at first to have little to do with everyday life here: they are places of historical tradition, the Bible, places in Palestine, the Middle East, and Spain - stations in his life that led the not-yet-35-year-old from Saxony into the distance and back again to a small place near Dresden, where Christian Lehnert now works as a pastor. Lehnert listens to the sentences that seep up from the silence; he gives the sleeper a poetic voice, the soldier, the physicist, or the deaf-mute dancer, and sings about the volcano, the motorway, and the wasteland in a language of extreme density that is never out for effects.
