The work provides a detailed and in-depth introduction to the field of identification of dynamic systems. Various methods are presented for this purpose. The goal of all methods is to determine a mathematical model of a technical or non-technical system based on measured input and output signals that describes the actual behavior as accurately as possible. Identification methods are addressed for both linear and nonlinear single-variable as well as multi-variable systems. Typically, the result is a time-discrete system model. However, in many cases, it is more advantageous to determine the parameters of time-continuous system models, as these allow for a direct statement about the physical properties of the system being studied. Numerous examples and appendices enable the interested reader to engage in self-study.
