It is precisely Adolf Eichmann, who as the Jewish affairs officer sent millions of Jewish women, men, and children to their deaths, that Hannah Arendt denies any anti-Semitic mindset. With this interpretation, Hannah Arendt presented one of the most provocative and simultaneously controversial discussions on anti-Semitism. Paradoxically, however, the result of this book shows that modern anti-Semitism manifests itself in its most radical form precisely in the banal perpetrator. This thesis contradicts the prevailing interpretations of Arendt's portrait of Eichmann and refutes the widespread claim that she depicted Eichmann as an obedient, subordinate bureaucrat.
