In the tradition of Bion's constructivism and Lewin's field theory, as well as M. and W. Baranger's work, Antonino Ferro proposes a new model of the relationship between patient and analyst, which he calls the "Analytical Field." From this perspective, he examines fundamental psychoanalytic concepts such as criteria for analysability, the appropriate timing for ending analysis, transference that occurs during a session, negative therapeutic reactions, sexuality, and setting. With a pleasant openness, Ferro presents an approach to the thoughts and feelings of the analyst in psychoanalytic therapy. He demonstrates how both partners in the psychoanalytic process—patient and analyst—engage in a highly personal relationship that can transform them both.
