Translators and their theoretical beliefs about translation, as well as the often precise guidelines from publishers regarding aspects such as the scope of the publication, the annotation apparatus, and linguistic nuances, have a significant impact on the shape of the texts. Their reception, in turn, is significantly influenced by reviews in the press or by important awards given to a translator. The contributions illustrate the interplay of such aspects in different contexts, with the range of texts spanning from ancient classics to early modern travel reports and contemporary high-altitude literature, such as that of Elfriede Jelinek. The spectrum of target languages includes not only German but also Italian and the creole language Papiamentu.
