Lili moves into a nursing home to support her care-dependent husband. Her family is looking for someone to visit her regularly and help her with daily tasks. The first-person narrator says, "I am that someone." She lives in the same house as Lili's granddaughter Sophie, and together they are raising her eight-year-old son Eric. However, she has found a job in a distant city and is now hesitant to confess to them that she will soon be moving away.
