Photographic and cinematic images of crisis and conflict situations are changing in aesthetics and usage, and are thus coming under scrutiny themselves. On one hand, the digital developments have multiplied the possibilities for image producers and the distribution channels for images. This expands perspectives and enables new narrative forms. On the other hand, this brings about a disruption of the classical understanding of photojournalism. It raises questions about the extent to which photographs can still serve as testimonies. They operate in the tension between claims to truth, authenticity, documentation, and propaganda. Their contextualizations and framings create meanings and require reflection. 'Images in Conflict' focuses on the relationship between conflicts and their mediation.
