With the reconstruction of the so-called "new" old town between Römer and Cathedral in Frankfurt, the topic of the lost unique historical timber-framed city has become a current issue. Until World War II, the Main metropolis had the largest timber-framed buildings in the world. This book deals with this magnificent but vanished urban architecture, exploring the background of its development and significance. It is a previously missing study with rich illustrations, a journey through the history and architectural history of an important imperial city and the coronation site of German kings, shaped by imperial diets, civic engagement, fair privileges, and trade. All of this had an impact on the architecture, as vividly illustrated in the book.
