Horses have been part of human life for millennia, serving as a source of food and transportation, as sports equipment and status symbols, while also being elevated in mythology and superstition, such as being seen as death horses, ghost steeds, or wind horses. Modern times have attributed human characteristics to them, for example in the role of the brave war horse, the suffering cab horse, or as a symbol of freedom. This diversity of motifs has inspired writers and painters throughout history to immortalize the various meanings of the horse. This book seeks to connect word and image by bringing together works of visual art and literature.
