Product details

"Immediacy" refers in the philosophical tradition to something that requires no further explanatory justification and is self-evident, thus "immediately" clear. Dialectical thinking breaks down these self-evident truths by also addressing the category of immediacy; the dialectical critique of immediacy is enlightenment in the sense that it does not accept the given unconditionally. This is elaborated upon in reference to the history of the term. This history reaches its turning point with Hegel, who reveals the illusion of immediacy by demonstrating that immediacy itself is mediated. Marx builds on this when he develops a concept of objective mediation with and against Hegel. In doing so, he diverges from the path of post-Hegelian philosophy, which, like Feuerbach and other Young Hegelians, advocates for an unmediated immediacy against Hegel.
