Prince Alex, grandson of the Empress of the intergalactic Empire of Asgard, is pursuing a career as an officer in the Starfleet after completing his business studies, aiming to secure a good position at court, unlike his relatives who are more focused on administration. This ambition does not sit well with everyone, and the Empress's favorite unexpectedly finds himself not in a harmless maneuver but in a brutal space battle against the rebellious republics. After a desperate hyperspace jump, he drifts through the vastness of space with a few survivors aboard a massive warship, without the chance for another hyperspace entry or contact with the Empire. His only hope lies in the search parties. When their years-long journey leads them to an inhabited system, they seize the opportunity to escape the spaceship with its limited resources. However, the survivors not only split into rival factions, but the planet's inhabitants are also not what they seem: they have encountered long-lost colonists of the Empire who have regressed to a medieval level and are fighting against the lizard-like natives of their new home. Alex begins to bring the planet under his control.
