Paulchen accompanies his little sister Mathilde to ballet school. There, they diligently rehearse for Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker. Paulchen experiences a ballet class, learns about classical ballet and jazz dance, and realizes that dancing is not just for girls. During the main rehearsal for the Nutcracker at the opera house, Paulchen steps in for an ill extra and finds himself right in the middle of the action on stage. Andrea Hoyer studied Visual Communication at the University of the Arts Berlin and has been working as a freelance illustrator since 1992. Since 1998, she has been writing her own children's books. Andrea Hoyer lives in Berlin with her husband and four children.
