Wilhelm Schapp, a student of Edmund Husserl, from whom he received his doctorate in 1909, is the founder of the "philosophy of stories". Stories are "primordial phenomena", first and last things in the development of man, behind which he cannot go back and from whose context he can never completely detach himself. According to Schapp's basic statement, man is, from the outset, woven into a fabric of story references, which is why, constitutionally speaking, he can be described as the "in-story entangled". Understanding human existence is thus always at the same time an understanding of this dynamic web of reference. What and who we are in each case, we are through the "stories" in which we are "entangled".
