Karl May loved Tyrol, especially the south. Few people know that this region played a very important role in his real life and that there were diverse, multifaceted, and sometimes even quite spicy connections with the area. Perhaps that is why Anton Haider set out to gather information about these episodes from May's life. May was also active as a writer in the region: The beginning was marked in 1883 with the publication of the story "Der Krumir" in a supplement of the "Innsbrucker Nachrichten." In the following years, more of his texts were published in the "Tiroler Marienkalender." May later found a strong supporter in the Tyrolean painter, writer, and editor Leopold Gheri. During the years of the Karl May controversy, he bravely stood up for the great storyteller and published Karl May's art in the Innsbruck magazine "Der Kunstfreund.".
