The global trend is moving towards inclusive schools where disabled and disadvantaged students learn together with everyone else. In Germany, all school authorities and schools are required to develop inclusion guidelines for implementation, as the UN Convention signed by Germany grants disabled children the enforceable right to regular schooling. However, an inclusive school aims for more: it is a school that promotes educational equity, where all other disadvantages should also be addressed. Kersten Reich illustrates, using the example of the School Board of Toronto, what such a school could look like, what standards and rules should apply at the levels of administration and school authorities, and how these can be practically implemented.
