Countless facts about the anatomy and physiology of individual organs are taught in medical education, but nothing about their essence, which Chinese doctors, for example, refer to as the General in the case of the liver, or which Greek and medieval doctors associated with the planets. The author aims to describe this particular essence of the organs in the present volume without getting lost in nebulous mysticism. Each organ is presented in an understandable manner: its location, shape, embryonic development, function, and characteristic properties. This allows for a comprehensive understanding of the living biography and physiognomy of an organ as well as its diseases. This new edition has been supplemented with two chapters.
