My two-volume work on engineering geology was completely printed and ready in November 1943 when a bombing raid on Leipzig completely destroyed the entire print run, as well as the typesetting and all printing plates. Mr. Otto Lange, the owner of the Springer Publishing House in Vienna, immediately decided to reprint the work and assigned the first volume to a printing house in Vienna and the second to a printing house in Wiesbaden for typesetting. While the first volume was completed and delivered to the public in 1944, despite significant difficulties primarily caused by the war, the second volume fell victim to a new bombing raid in the middle of printing. This new heavy blow did not deter the tireless publisher from undertaking the production of the second volume once again, thus for the third time. It is now available.
