My childhood summers in the valley of the Kleine Erlauf included strolling through the agricultural fair until I ended up with a sunburn. This meant that the river was at a somewhat bearable temperature for swimming. It involved riding my bike while wearing nothing but sports shorts. This meant a cool breeze at the shady edge of the forest and tiny strawberries along the meadow edges. The early summer was accompanied by the wonderful scent of hay. The hay blower consisted of a huge fan that ventilated the freshly harvested hay through a shaft in the middle of the haystack. Its intense and sweet smell filled every corner of the farm day and night.
