This volume brings together for the first time all known paralipomena to Goethe's Faust in a faithful documentation based on the manuscripts. These paralipomena, or the omitted parts, consist of a large group of very different texts and text fragments that Goethe wrote while working on Faust but did not include, or did not include in this form, in the final work. Among other things, it presents the preliminary works and fragments for a Satanic mass on the Blocksberg that was ultimately not realized, as well as fragments of other initially planned but then not executed scenes. This includes a planned grand disputation between Faust and Mephistopheles, Faust's descent into Hades, where he was to rescue the Greek Helena from the realm of the dead, and the investiture of Faust with the sea strait.
