Berlin 1912: In the Romanisches Café, the artists of the Berlin Bohemia gather. Else Lasker-Schüler was part of this famous and infamous group. She is once again heartbroken; her husband Herwarth Walden has left her and traveled to Norway. She writes letters to the "dear North Pole explorer," composes poems, turns her abandonment into a game, and makes her contemporaries her playmates, much to their dismay. She doesn’t care. The selected letters and poems here tell of the Berlin artistic life, of the Café des Westens, where the literary bohemians meet and friends gather, and they also describe the life of a radical poetess who must assert herself as an artist.
