The surahs from the middle Meccan period set new focal points. From the intimate conversation between the divine speaker and the proclaimer addressed as "you," a Quranic theology develops. It is based on the idea of continuous divine speaking through prophets. In their effort to connect with this biblical history of prophets and thus with the people of God of the Israelites, the listening community increasingly develops the awareness of belonging to the chosen ones. They interpret biblical history, especially the Book of Exodus, typologically and therefore understand their own present not just as a continuation of the story of the Israelites led by Moses, but as a re-enactment of it.
