Die kleine Berlinerin
German, Robert Walser, 2018Product details
In Berlin, Robert Walser became a writer. In 1905, the trained banker moved to the German metropolis, where he published three novels and over a hundred prose pieces. Hermann Hesse and Robert Musil wrote enthusiastic reviews, while Franz Kafka laughed heartily as Walser portrayed the world city and its representatives, such as the art dealer Paul Cassirer and his daughter, the little Berliner. Walser's most beautiful stories from and about Berlin create a panorama of a vibrant metropolis. Impressionistic street scenes alongside sharp satires of the cultural scene, lucid analyses of a groundbreaking era, and sensitive reports from the darker side of modernity: sightseeing between Friedrichstrasse and Kurfürstendamm, between Tiergarten and Charlottenburg has never been so poetic.
