Product details
Oskar Kokoschka (1886-1980) is primarily known and famous as an expressionist painter and writer. His debut work, The Dreaming Boys (1907, published in only a few copies), is a rarity among his self-illustrated texts, as it is textually aligned with expressionism while still visually reminiscent of the Art Nouveau style of the Vienna Workshops. The edition dedicated to Gustav Klimt features vividly colored lithographs reminiscent of reverse glass paintings—fairy-tale scenes in bright colors, a style that does not reappear in Kokoschka's later work. However, the themes of awakening sexuality, longing for tenderness, and fear of possessive brutality remain central to his oeuvre.
