Fabeln
German, Jean de La Fontaine, Marc Chagall, 2016More than 10 pieces in stock at third-party supplier
Product details
The legendary art dealer Ambroise Vollard commissioned Marc Chagall in 1926 to illustrate the famous fables of Jean de La Fontaine. In 1930, the images were exhibited in renowned galleries in Paris, Brussels, and Berlin, and sold to private collections around the world. It wasn't until the 1990s that efforts were made to reunite the scattered paintings as a major work cycle at the Grand Palais in Paris and present them to a wider audience. The Insel-Bücherei makes all the images from this exhibition, 43 colored gouaches, available for the first time in a German edition, along with the fables - a fabulous delight!.
