"The 'Day and Night Books from Lapland', perhaps Sigrid Damm's most personal work, is a tribute to Lapland and its inhabitants, the Sámi. Sigrid Damm's literary text forms a symbiosis with the graphics, collages, and photographs created by Joachim Hamster Damm. The book recounts a seven-day hike undertaken by a 60-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man. The mountainous landscape of Lapland is seen and experienced by two individuals, where days and nights become an experiment in solitude in the encounter with an archaic world. The hikers are entirely on their own. The vastness and tranquility of the landscape reveal its inherent power and lead the woman and the man to a conscious awareness of primal elements: grass, fur, fire, water, home, mountains, horizon lines, birth and death, peace and war. It is a meditation on the current state of being.".
