The subject of this book seems to me grand and important, and if I am not mistaken, the idea of providing guidelines for dealing with all classes of people in a dedicated work is still new. Thus, Adolph Freiherr von Knigge begins his preface to the first two editions of his writing, which was published in 1788 and released in a revised final version in 1790. However, it is not only a guide to learning social etiquette, as it is commonly perceived. Essentially, this book aims to convey practical wisdom for life, derived from rich life experience, in the Enlightenment sense. Knigge's writing starts from the simple, the natural relationships in human life, and leads to more complicated social constellations. Adolph Freiherr Knigge (1752-1796) was a novelist, satirist, critic, and author of moral philosophical writings.
