In 1984, Mimmo Paladino created four large-format linocuts inspired by "Ulysses" by James Joyce. Ten years later, the artist, born in 1948 in Paduli, Italy, had the opportunity to once again engage with this "world-daily life of an era" (Hermann Broch): he produced 18 etchings, whose elaborate gold leaf backgrounds evoke early miniatures in prayer books and pay respectful homage to the writer's work. However, the etchings do not merely illustrate; they also tell their own story of Odysseus. Accompanying them are selected passages from "Ulysses." Mimmo Paladino is considered one of the most important living artists in Italy; his works have been exhibited in numerous museums and art halls around the world, as well as at the Biennales in Paris, Sydney, and Venice, and at Documenta in Kassel. Paladino lives in Milan and Paduli.
