In 2003, the 200th birthday of the painter Ludwig Richter was celebrated with a large city festival in Dresden. Famous paintings by Richter, including his "Bridal Procession in Spring," were reenacted by the citizens of Dresden. In Thomas Rosenlöcher's work, this tourist reality blends with the fantasies of his Dresden-loving, narrative alter ego into a fantastical-satirical love letter to the Elbe metropolis or to what it could be. The second story, "Sandstone Dresden," is also an attempt to explain the worldwide love for Dresden. While the narrator enjoys beers in packs of three on the "Brühl's Tourist Terrace," reminiscent of past scarcity behavior, he contemplates leaving Dresden, as "anyone from Dresden who wants to make something of themselves in the world must leave the city in time." But whether he succeeds in doing so remains uncertain.
