The job cuts in Western Europe in favor of more cost-effective locations are accompanied by discussions about production relocations and outsourcing. However, in practice, the strong cost focus in offshoring and outsourcing decisions has overshadowed important aspects of designing intra- and inter-company value chains, as evidenced by reshoring and re-insourcing activities. The contributions in this conference proceedings address the design of value chains and provide insights for broader considerations in site selection, taking into account the important aspects of strategic decisions regarding relocations.
