London 1894. The great Van Dyke, one of the world's most famous illusionists, is known for his dangerous and breathtaking magic tricks. When Van Dyke narrowly escapes death during the performance of the spectacular "Water Torture" and another magician is nearly killed in a botched trick at the Adelphi Theatre, Chief Inspector Donald Swanson's team begins to investigate. It quickly becomes clear that someone has tampered with the props. And Swanson is convinced: one of Van Dyke's own ensemble must be the culprit.
