Nature has always been a source of inspiration for various design disciplines. Artists, designers, and architects not only imitate natural forms and functions but also consider multilayered backgrounds. This work explores how designers have drawn inspiration from nature in aesthetic and functional aspects over the past 150 years. The historical and theoretical foundations of the three most important periods within this timeframe are illustrated and each is deepened by a designer: Josep Maria Jujol, Alvar Aalto, and Ross Lovegrove have particularly engaged with the aesthetic and functional aspects of nature, showcasing a wide spectrum of designers' interactions with natural principles.
