Product details

The demographic and social changes that Western European countries have experienced since the 1960s have prompted individual nation-states to respond with different concepts. "Integration" is a central yet contested political and academic term in this context. In the social sciences, "integration" is understood as a societal process related to migration, which involves overcoming boundaries through mutual adaptation and change between the host society and migrants. In the political discourses of recent years, "integration" has often been interpreted as a performance of adaptation that individual migrants must achieve. This anthology aims to reclaim the term "integration" from those who, far removed from social scientific insights, use it in a xenophobic manner.
