Abstract: Süskind's work is a historical novel that reveals details of the craft techniques of tanners and perfumers, but also presents us with the Age of Enlightenment, albeit clearly with a parody. Furthermore, the author provides us with insights into the hygienic conditions of the 18th century. A plot in which smells play an important role, a story that seems so unrealistic yet touches the reader deeply. In my paper, I focus on several key aspects, as this book truly deserves to be analyzed. I begin with a summary, followed by an examination of the language and structure of the book, taking into account the author's biography, and then I will address the themes and motifs.
