Isis unveiled
German, Ulrich Holbein, 2000Product details
"Isis Unveiled" is a large-scale mosaic novel on the theme of veiling and unveiling, which takes the modern genre of the puzzle novel to unprecedented heights. A character named Ulrich Holbein leaves his mundane lover Rosi to embark on a solo journey. He heads towards the Orient to see the naked truth in the Temple of Isis, which means lifting the veil responsible for this revelation. Several methods of unveiling are employed: seven in total. Some unveilings are successful, leading to ecstatic unity and experiences of enlightenment, while others descend into apocalyptic visions. Typically, novelists construct their works from words. However, Holbein operates in "Isis" with the next largest unit: the quote. This results in a bubbling, absurd grand collage of literary, film, practical text, colloquial, and self-quotes, paraphrases, and images – an international collective brew of 5,437 quotes from about 732 often highly incompatible poets, thinkers, founders of religions, gurus, ecstatic individuals, ghostwriters, and illustrators from various times and places, ranging from Count Zeppelin to Albertus Magnus.
