The present study approaches the life worlds of radicalized individuals and analyzes the multifaceted phenomenon through biographical research. The results show that Islamist radicalization is an active process in which the individual engages with a specific Islamic theology, along with its norms and values. The individuals involved do not radicalize in isolation but are embedded in a social environment that is referred to in this study as a radical milieu.
