On October 18, 1997, the Fondation Beyeler opened its doors for the first time to make its collection treasures accessible to a wide audience. Just twenty years separate this event from the present, during which the museum has established a unique reputation and a solid position in the international art world. This is not only due to the founders Ernst and Hildy Beyeler and their special intuition for discovering and assembling outstanding works. The success is also attributed to the continuous continuation of this collection activity. To celebrate its 20th anniversary, a richly illustrated publication is being released, in which the artists of the collection speak for themselves: their quotes, drawn from letters, interviews, or their own writings, express a multitude of voices about their working methods and thoughts on art.
