The integration of business processes with IT systems and applications is becoming increasingly intense, leading to a growing dependence of operational workflows on a functioning IT infrastructure. FitSM is a new standard for pragmatic IT service management (ITSM) that can be implemented with reasonable effort. It is based on well-known frameworks such as ITIL, ISO/IEC 20000, and COBIT, describes 14 processes, and defines 85 requirements for effective ITSM. The authors provide a practical introduction to the fundamental concepts and principles for successfully implementing FitSM in an organization. Following an introduction to FitSM, the general requirements are outlined, highlighting the overarching aspects of efficient ITSM. Subsequently, the 14 processes of FitSM are presented in a structured manner, summarizing the associated roles and requirements for each process.
