Product details
Justitia, the representation of justice, appears today to most of us in the guise of legal justice as a symbol of state jurisprudence and as a promise that justice will be served in court. Justitia operates within a narrow corridor of meaning according to these notions. However, a look back at history reveals a rupture in perception. In earlier eras, Justitia was not only associated with significantly more meanings but also served as a guiding principle and ideal for more individuals and groups than just jurists or the parties involved in court disputes. Particularly, the aspect of justice as a virtue of merchants and a model in trade seems to have been forgotten today. Although the term "just merchant" is still in use, it appears that hardly anyone understands Justitia as the virtue of traders anymore.
