In the mid-1950s, Gerhard Rühm wrote that they had discovered the dialect for modern poetry, referring not only to himself but also to H. C. Artmann and Friedrich Achleitner. Friedrich Achleitner's dialect poems differ significantly from those of his friends. Amid the various Viennese urban dialects, he heard his Innviertler dialect with different ears. In the farms along the Bavarian border, there was almost no vocabulary outside of the working world, he writes in the afterword. Achleitner's sharply witty Gstanzln, Schnaderhüpfln, litanies, and poems, created since then and collected here, appear for the first time in a single volume.
