Thorsten Benkel, PD Dr., is a sociologist and works as a senior academic advisor at the University of Passau. He is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Journal of Sexual Research, the Museum of Sepulchral Culture (Kassel), and various projects and initiatives. He is also a founding member of the Working Group on Thanatology of the DGS Section on Sociology of Knowledge and editor of the series 'Thanatological Studies'. His research focuses on the sociology of knowledge, qualitative social research, and the sociology of the body, religion, and law.

Matthias Meitzler, M.A., is a research associate at the Chair of Sociology with a focus on the sociology of technology and sustainable development at the University of Passau. He studied sociology, psychoanalysis, and history at Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. His areas of expertise include the sociology of knowledge, qualitative methods, media studies, thanatosociology, and the sociology of the body and emotions. He is also a co-founder of the 'Working Group on Thanatology' of the DGS Section on 'Sociology of Knowledge' and co-editor of the 'Yearbook for Death and Society'.
